Imagine Dragons is an American rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada. The band consists of front man Dan Reynolds, bassist Ben McKee, guitarist Wayne Sermon and drummer Daniel Platzman. Imagine Dragons has reached phenomenal success with their hit single’s “Radioactive” and “It’s Time” topping the billboard charts and taking over the air waves.
It wasn’t always easy for the Vegas natives Reynolds says on their website ImagineDragonsMusic. ““We were playing a gig at this place called O’Sheas, which has the cheapest beer on the strip. I was basically standing on top of the drums, the stage was so small. We were on our final song of a six-hour set. I got to the end of the song and just fully passed out in the middle of singing. I came to, got up, finished the song, and we got a standing ovation from all these people at this tiny little casino at three am on a weekday in Vegas. Something about that moment bonded us and made us realize that we were building a connection with people from all over the country.”
Imagine Dragons independently released three EP’s before releasing their full-length album Night Visions. It was a three-year long process before the album was complete. The band has come a long way from their first shows and debuting their music that they have made it a pact to keep the meaning of Imagine Dragons between themselves. It has been a four-year long secret, which is as long as the band has been together. The guys have said that Imagine Dragons is an anagram made from letters of different words.
Sermon told, KROQ “At this point, it’s been built up so much that anything we say is going to be a letdown. We might just leave it up to everyone’s imaginations. They probably have better guesses than the real answer.”
There was some misinterpretation of an apostrophe being needed in the name in an interview with San Francisco music blog TheBayBridge.com Reynolds, “The writer was asking me if there was an apostrophe or not, and I said there may or may not be an apostrophe.”
Reynolds continues to say that he doesn’t remember how they decided on the name Imagine Dragons. He said, ““It just kind of stuck. We were just like, ‘yeah, that sounds like a cool name.’ We had a gig like two days later, and there we were.”
The meaning of Imagine Dragons still remains a mystery but it is a quirky name that symbolizes the guys as an artist. To conclude the reasoning of keeping the name meaning a secret Reynolds said, “We just thought it would be cool to keep something to ourselves, because you’re always exposing yourself as an artist. A lot of times, lyrically I’m writing about things that are really close to home for me, and that’s what music is about. So it’s kind of nice to have one thing just between the four of us. We have our little ritual before we go onstage, and just little things that keep us together.”
Imagine Dragons will be on tour with The Neighbourhood. The bands met at The World Famous KROQ Weenie Roast. According to KROQThe Neighbourhood is looking forwards to the tour with Imagine Dragons because they have been around “much longer,” “doing it longer,” and “should be much better.” The Neighbourhood also expressed that they learn something new from each band they share the stage with. It will be exciting to see what Las Vegas natives Imagine Dragons and Southern California black-and-white band The Neighbourhood will bring with their upcoming tour.
