Actor James Franco will be the target of Comedy Central’s next roast special. Franco announced the news himself and then the network also confirmed it.
In an Instagram video, a very tired looking Franco told his fans, “I’m gonna get roasted on Comedy Central. Be sure to check it out. They wanted me to tell you that.” He also tweeted a link to the video.
“I’ve dreamed about this Roast for as long as I can remember,” Franco said in a statement the network posted on its Tumblr blog.
The special will be taped in Los Angeles next month and is set to air on Labor Day. It is being executive produced by Miles Levy and Joel Gallen from Tenth Planet Productions, the team behind previous roast specials. They worked on roasts of Roseanne Barr, Donald Trump, Charlie Sheen and William Shatner.
Comedy Central also said that it secured the digital rights to Francophrenia, a documentary Franco made about working on General Hospital. It will announce more details on the Franco roast in the weeks before the special.
Franco recently starred as the titular character in Oz The Great And Powerful and played himself in This Is The End. His adaptation of William Faulkner’s As I Lay Dying hits theaters on Sept. 27.
