Janelle Monáe posted her second video off her upcoming album The Electric Lady.
The video for the fun fast pace single “Dace Apocalyptic” shows Monáe letting lose, supporting a new curly hairstyle, and even steps out of her signature suit and tie. An all-female band and dancers onstage support Monáe.
Rolling Stone reports the video is an clip from the short film The Dance Apocalyptic. The film is about another version of present-day America.
The song is Monáe’s second single off her upcoming album. Her first glimpse at The Electric Lady first surfaced back in April with “Q.U.E.E.N” a collaboration with Erykah Badu.
Wendy Morgan directed the video for “Dance Apocalyptic” and the song is also featured in Monáe’s upcoming CoverGirl commercials.
The Electric Lady is Monáe’s will follow 2010’s Grammy nominated The ArchAndroid and is set to release on Sept. 10.
“We took our time to work on it,” Monáe told Billboard. “We felt a shift in the world . . . a shift in our music and freedom, with life and politics and where we are as a society. Every time is not always the right time for you to come out with something.”
