John Mayer appeared on the Today show Friday to promote his newest album, Paradise Valley. In the interview, the handsome singer addressed reports that his newest single, “Paper Doll” is about ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift.

Upon the releasing of “Paper Doll,” fans immediately speculated that the songs purpose was to take shots at Swift, whom he dated from 2009-2010.

“You're like 22 girls in one/ And none of them know what they're running from/ Was it just too far to fall/ For a little paper doll,” he sings, appearing to take queue from Swift’s hit song, “22.”

However, when pressed about the correlation by Today’s Willie Geist, Mayer remained reserved about the meaning of the song. E! News quotes Mayer as responding, “Songwriters write songs because of people, about people. Anything someone else wrote is their reception of a song. I don't get involved in it. It's none of my business.”

Mayer previously spoke out about Swift’s obvious Mayer-bashing song “Dear John,” during an interview with Rolling Stone calling the song “humiliating” and saying it was a “really lousy thing to do.”
