It’s no shocker when country singer Taylor Swift writes songs about boys who have wronged her, or even of boys she has wronged.

So when Swift wrote her song “Dear John” back in 2010 everyone knew it was about the fleeting romance she had with singer-songwriter John Mayer. But rumor has it that John Mayer has finally written the young country star back.

Early this morning on the Today show, Mayer was asked about the rumors that his new single “Paper Doll” was about Taylor Swift.

"Yeah, songwriters write songs because of people, about people," Mayer said, carefully avoiding the question. "Anything someone else wrote is their reception of a song. I don’t get involved with (it). It's none of my business."

At the time of “Dear John’s” release, Mayer bashed the song saying it was “cheap songwriting.” He also stated that he had been at a bad place in his life and it was a low blow of Swift to release that song. But now perhaps this is Mayer’s way of subtly getting back at her with lyrics like

“You're like 22 girls in one/ And none of them know what they're running from/ Was it just too far to fall for a little paper doll?"

Those lyrics seem awfully similar to Swift’s new hit “22” as well as the lyrics to “Dear John.”

But opening up about his relationship and life isn’t the only thing Mayer has been up to -- NY Daily News reported today, July 11th, that Mayer and Perry were in a music store when Mayer stepped in and bought am expensive guitar for 16 year-old Julie Fermin who had been eyeing the instrument on the wall at the same time the couple was browsing. The power couple talked to Fermin about her music and took a picture with her which Fermin shared on her Twitter.
