The throne is secure for another generation! The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed the next heir to the British throne, a baby boy, on July 22 at St. Mary's Hospital in London, England.

The Irish Independent reports that the newest member of the British monarchy weighed eight pounds, six ounces and was born at 4:24 PM local time in London. Per royal tradition, the baby's name may not be announced for days or weeks. The Duchess's labor was supervised by royal gynecologist Marcus Setchell.

The baby boy is third in line to ascend the throne after Prince Charles and Prince William, says CNN. The child's title will be His Royal Highness, Prince of Cambridge.

Earlier today, Kensington Palace released a statement confirming that Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, had been admitted to St. Mary's Hospital in the early stages of labor and that the labor was progressing normally, People reported.
