Lady Gaga will return to the stage for the first time since hip surgery to perform at the MTV 2013 Video Music Awards, which will be held at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center next month.

MTV made the announcement Thursday afternoon, using an Instagram video to break the news. The network teased that Gaga will sing her first single from ARTPOP, the new album she announced earlier this month.

Gaga confirmed that the album and a special app will be out on Nov. 11. The single, which might be might be titled “Applause,” will be released on Aug. 19, just before the VMAs. Preorders for the album will begin on Sept. 1.

Gaga has won 13 VMAs in her career, including Best New Artist and Video of the Year for “Bad Romance.” She’s also performed in the past and wore that infamous Meat Dress to the event in 2010.

The nominees were announced last week, with Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis securing the most with six each. Both will compete for Video of the Year, along with Bruno Mars, Robin Thicke and Taylor Swift.

The 2013 VMAs are scheduled for Aug. 25 at 9 p.m. It will be the first ceremony held at the Barclays Center and more performers will be announced soon. Voting is also open at VMA.MTV.com.
