Leighton Meester has announced that she’s dropping out of the Veronica Mars film, which original stars Kristen Bell and Krysten Ritter have signed on for.

Creator Rob Thomas said of Meester playing Carrie Bishop that scheduling conflicts prevent her from signing on to the film.

"Sadly, Leighton was doing a different movie during the same time frame on the wrong coast. In the end, she was unavailable,” Thomas told KickStarter, Starpulse reports.

“One of the reasons I wanted Leighton, beyond her talent/beauty/history in the show, was that we needed a performer who could sing in this important role. Once it became evident that we couldn't make Leighton's schedule work, I decided to cast someone from a band I already wanted in the movie."

As a result, Thomas has cast the lead singer of the band Twin Sister, Andrea Estella, in the role. She said it’s a “bit of a dream” to be in the movie.

The Hollywood Gossip reports after Meester appeared on Veronica Mars, she got the role that put her on the map, Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl.
