As promised, Lionsgate delivered the official theatrical trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire at Comic-Con Saturday afternoon.
According to The Hollywood Reporter sitting on the panel in anticipation for the trailer’s debut was director Francis Lawrence and stars Josh Hutcherson, Lenny Kravitz, Jena Malone, Jeffrey Wright and Willow Shields.
Lawrence, who plays the main character Katniss Everdeen, discussed where her character is mentally and emotionally following her victory in her first ever Hunger Games. Struggling between the romance she pretended to have on screen with Peeta (Hutcherson) and her feelings for her longtime friend Gale (Hemsworth), Lawrence explains that in addition to struggling with her own emotions in Catching Fire, “She's struggling from post-traumatic stress from the Games.”
In the trailer we see Lawrence attempting to reconnect after the Games along with a very unhappy President Snow (Donald Sutherland), who sees Katniss kissing Gale. He tells Plutarch Heavensbee (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) that Katniss “must be eliminated.” Katniss’ struggles only get worse from here.
Katniss and Peeta find themselves thrust back into the games in for the Quarter Quell where they will fight against former Games winners in the hopes of staying alive once again.
In the Quarter Quell, we meet Finnick Odair, played by Sam Claflin, as well as Johanna Mason, played by Jena Malone. Additionally, we see the tributes in full training mode, a more advanced session than what fans saw in the first Hunger Games film,MTV reports.
The dramatic trailer shows Katniss and her family living in Victor’s Village, her wearing a stunning gown designed by Cinna, a small look into the beginning of the Games and most notably the repercussions that comes when a villager shows support for Katniss.
