The Chicago-area security guard who allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend, Georgina Randall, in front of her children Monday night was charged with first-degree murder today.
Wynton Collins, a 28-year-old who worked as a security guard for Chicago Housing Authority buildings, confronted his girlfriend on the porch of a South Drake home in the Lawndale area of the city. The two started having a domestic dispute when Collins took out a handgun and shot her.
As Randall’s family, including her cousin and two children, started to flee, Collins began to reload his gun. Randall’s 4-year-old son threw toys at Collins and screamed for him to stop. Instead, Collins shot her five more times and then fled the scene.
According to World News Views, Randall, 30, was rushed to Mt. Sinai hospital where she was pronounced dead soon after because of her fatal gunshot wounds. Her 7-year-old daughter immediately identified Collins to police.
Collins fled to a friend’s house in suburban Bellwood, telling her what he had just done. She immediately phoned police and Collins was arrested only a few hours after the shooting.
Chicago Tribune reports that Julie Koehler, Collins’ attorney, claims he had no criminal record before the incident.
After being charged with first-degree murder today, bail was denied by Judge Joseph Panarese.
