Singer/songwriter Jewel has been added to the panel of judges on NBC’s The Sing-Off.
According to the official press release, Jewel will join judges Shawn Stockman and Ben Folds when the show returns this fall. Host Nick Lachey is also set to return.
The series, which first aired in 2009, features a group of contestants singing a cappella with no safety nets, back-up singers or bands to help contestants during their performances. Contestants are fighting for the chance to win $100,000 and a recording contract.
Paul Telegdy, NBC’s President of Alternative and Late Night Programming, gushed about Jewel’s addition to the show saying, “There are very few musical artists as accomplished and talented as Jewel. Her addition to ‘The Sing-Off’ judges panel, along with our stellar team of Shawn Stockman and Ben Folds, raises the showmanship of the series up another notch. The musical credentials of Nick Lachey are extraordinary and his continued contributions to the show as host remain a huge asset.”
According to CBS News, the Grammy nominated artist will replace Sara Bareilles whens the series returns in December.
