New Amsterdam Vodka
The saying “you get what you pay for” is not one that always holds true. This proves to be the case with New Amsterdam’s Vodka. New Amsterdam Vodka is a premium 80 proof vodka that is five times distilled and filtered three times. This is a premium quality Vodka at a less than premium price. The summer is in full swing and I had the opportunity to try their Wingtip Tea to see what their vodka was all about.
Wingtip Tea:
1 ½ oz. New Amsterdam Vodka
2 slices of muddled lemon
3-4 oz. Acai mango & peach tea (or similar)
1 oz. Agave Syrup
Mint
Directions: Combine, shake and stain all ingredients into an iced Collins glass. Garnish with a mint leaf.
The outcome: First I must say that I did not find an acai mango and peach tea. Instead, I purchased Honest Tea’s Mango Acai White Tea and Snapple’s Diet Peach Tea. The outcome was delectable. The combination of both teas hid any bitterness of the vodka that is normally present when having standalone. Their Wingtip Tea recipe is the perfect summertime delight. I particularly enjoyed this with our classic summertime BBQ that we had at our home. Be careful though ladies and gentlemen. These go down way to easy and VERY quickly. These are a definite crowd pleaser, so make sure you have the pitchers ready.
Living near the beach, my summer Sundays include brunch and Bloody Marys. Have the wrong vodka and that will make or break your drink. I didn’t wait for Sunday to arrive to enjoy a Bloody Mary. Once again, New Amsterdam Vodka had its way with my drink. The bitterness of the vodka was only slightly felt, however, it complimented the Bloody Mary. I enjoyed it so much, I had two!
I am not one that particularly cares to have my Vodka straight. It is the bite and the bitterness of a Vodka that I cannot handle on its own. However, one can use this to his/her own advantage and enjoy a Vodka Tonic.
Overall, New Amsterdam is an inexpensive but easily mixable Vodka. It is by no means, a top shelf vodka, but comparably speaking, against other Vodkas in its price range, it is definitely one of the top contenders.
