David Ellison’s Skydance Productions and Paramount Pictures have signed an extension, keeping their partnership going until 2018.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Skydance and Paramount have been working together since 2010, with Ellison co-producing and co-financing Paramount projects. In turn, Paramount gets first-look opportunities at all Skydance projects and agrees to co-finance and distribute them.
Skydance and Paramount have teamed up for three big movies in 2013 so far - G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Star Trek Into Darkness and World War Z. The Wrap notes that the three have grossed a combined $1.24 billion worldwide. Their next collaboration, Jack Ryan, opens on Christmas Day.
“Our partnership with David and Skydance has been tremendously successful,” Paramount CEO Brad Grey said. “We are very pleased to extend our relationship and look forward to many more successful years ahead.”
One of the other highly anticipated Skydance/Paramount projects is the Terminator reboot coming in 2015. That film is being co-produced by Ellison’s sister Megan Ellison and her Amanpura Productions. Megan Ellison owns the rights to Terminator and Paramount agreed to co-finance the project.
This news comes while Universal signed its own co-financing deal with Legendary Pictures and as Warner Bros. reached a new deal with Brett Ratner and James Packer’s Dune Entertainment.
