Miley Cyrus has about 1,000 more reasons to celebrate in the wake of her record-breaking video release for the summer hit, “We Can’t Stop,” as fans petition President Obama to change the national anthem to Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.”
The petition , which was posted shortly before Independence Day to the White House’s We the People page, implores Obama to consider the pop hit as the nation’s new anthem.
“Obama please make Miley Cyrus' ‘Party in the USA’ our national anthem,” the petition reads. “It is what is best for this country.”
According to The Huffington Post , the music video for Cyrus’ song, a juvenile telling of the beginning of her journey to reach the American Dream, has been viewed 342 million times.
Despite enthusiasm from 1,012 “Party in the U.S.A.” enthusiasts, it would take nearly 99,000 more signatures for the petition to reach the President’s desk, and all of those John Hancock’s must reach the petition by August 1.
It does not seem that the national anthem will be changing in the near future, and Cyrus is campaigning for fans to shift their attention to the upcoming Teen Choice awards, asking them to vote for her via Twitter in all four of her nominated categories.
