Phoenix posted their video for “Trying to Be Cool,” their second single off their current album Bankrupt!.
The French quartet is poking fun at their rock star status by celebrating all the cool things such as jamming sessions in a basement, mustaches, skinny jeans, Adidas tracksuits, and modern art.
The cameramen are changing shots every 25 seconds from the band, to shooting confetti, motorcycles, monkeys, and Marilyn Monroe impersonator Billboard reports.
After playing solo ping-pong and beating an angry kid at chess the band plays in the middle of flashing lights and a group of dancers with some impressive choreography.
Even after all the joking and wearing disco jackets, the success of their new album shows Phoenix is still cool.
Bankrupt! follows 2010’s Grammy-winning Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and hit number four on the Billboard 200.
“I guess we’re perfectionists in the way that when we make an album, we know it’s going to last. It’s important that it’s exactly how we want it to be. But when the record is done, it’s all about imperfection,” Thomas Mars said to Associated Press.
