Former police officer John Pike filed a Workman’s Compensation claim after pepper-spraying college students on the University of California-Davis campus during an Occupy protest in 2011.

Pike filed a worker’s compensation claim last month, citing psychological issues and injuries to his nervous system, Reuters reports .

Pike will attend a meeting with officials from the California Department of Industrial Relations on August 13 in Sacramento, California to discuss a possible settlement.

Pike was a campus police officer at the time of the protests. He was fired after an investigation concluded that pepper-spraying the protestors was unjustified. Campus Police Chief Annette Spicuzza later resigned her post.

Most of the students who were affected by the pepper spray were given first aid on the campus. Two students were taken to an area hospital. Videos taken during the pepper-spraying incident went viral on social media.

The university’s faculty association asked University of California Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi to resign because of a perceived "gross failure of leadership" surrounding the incident, the Associated Press reports.
