Three Burger King employees have been arrested in Dundee, Michigan after drug paraphernalia was found in a 4-year-old’s Kid’s Meal.
According to USA Today, a family found a pot pipe with contents of marijuana inside a Burger King’s Kid’s Meal they had ordered for a child earlier this week. It was the child’s grandfather who first noticed the pipe when he picked up the food, and quickly returned meal.
The Detroit family was in the area visiting Splash Universe water park and grabbing a bite to eat when the unexpected incident took place.
Dundee police traced the pot pipe to an employee who confessed he placed the pipe inside the kid’s meal box to try and hide it at work, according to ABC News. He said that he had no intention of giving the box out to anyone, but did admit to owning hashish and calling his two friends it to work.
The 23-year-old employee, and both friends, ages 18 and 20 were all arrested and await charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The chief assistant prosecutor for the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office, Joseph Costello, stated that marijuana possession is a one-year misdemeanor, and may result in a $2,000 fine.
Though the employees, and the Burger King involved in the incident did not comment on the situation but the Dundee police did.
"It's a sad situation when a 4-year-old is subjected to something like that," said Richard Uhl, chief of the Dundee Police Department. "It's dangerous." Uhl said that it was fortunate the family acted so promptly, for the 4-year-old could have potentially inhaled the marijuana.
