Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge were gifted a traditional Finnish baby box for their future son or daughter.

The Nordic country sent the box to the prince and his expecting wife as both a congratulatory gift and tradition, The Associated Press reports. The baby boxes have been given to expecting mothers since their early 1930’s, and contain a number of helpful items including jump suits, bibs, bonnets, diapers, socks, sleeping bags and the box doubles as a cot for the newborn child to sleep in.

A spokesperson for the royals released a statement following their receipt of the gift saying they were “delighted” and explained "it was a very thoughtful gesture and we're very grateful for it.

The Duchess of Cambridge and her husband are expected to welcome their first child together sometime later this month.

The former Kate Middleton and Prince William confirmed that they were expecting in December 2012 after the Duchess fell incredibly ill from morning sickness. The couple has not confirmed the gender of their child.
