This week at the box office saw another successful week for animated film Despicable Me 2, a surprising winner in The Conjuring and the absolute slaughtering of the action-comedy R.I.P.D.
The Conjuring, the thriller directed by James Wan, received an unlikely A- Cinema Score and brought in $17 million on its opening day, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
The Conjuring, which stars Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as paranormal investigators, only cost $20 million to create. The film is expected to continue its box office glory well into next week.
Universal’s Despicable Me 2 maintained its momentum surpassing $500 million, however the production company’s celebration wasn’t long lasting after R.I.P.D. failed to deliver grossing on $4.6 million.
If that wasn’t enough, R.I.P.D. actor Ryan Reynolds is also seeing a flop in his other film, Turbo, in which he voices the main character. Turbo is receiving less viewership with Despicable Me 2 still in theaters. Turbo grossed $6.5 million Friday, making it the third best movie of the weekend. Turbo is expected to be the least grossing film for a DreamWorks Animations.
According to LA Times, Turbo did find success in Russia, where it grossed $8.4 million.
