Eddie ‘Piolin’ Sotelo has been accused of sexual harassment by producer and performer Albert ‘Beto’ Cortez, which has lead to the cancellation of his hit syndicated Spanish radio show, Piolin en la Mañana.
Hispanically Speaking News reports that original reports thought that Sotelo was asking for too much money which lead to Univsion cancelling the morning show went left unconfirmed until the Los Angeles Times obtained court documents by Cortez, who alleges that his boss was “physically, sexually and emotionally harassing" him for a three year long period.
Sotelo’s attorney, Jeffrey Spitz, refutes the claims, saying that Cortez’s claims are motivated by money.
“A disgruntled, troubled employee has made malicious and false claims about Eddie Sotelo," Spitz said in a statement. "This was done as part of a demand for money.... The employee worked with Eddie for more than a decade. The employee's allegations of harassment and falsification of immigration letters are pure fiction intended to gain a financial settlement."
According to the claims, Sotelo would grab Cortez’s butt and genitals when he would arrive at work. Sotelo is also accused of calling Cortez vulgar names and belittling him during morning meetings.
The show was cancelled last week and an investigation into the claims are currently underway.
