Country music legend Randy Travis is in a Texas hospital Monday and listed in critical condition.
The “Three Wooden Crosses” singer was taken to the hospital on Sunday afternoon, his representatives have confirmed. His rep stated that he is suffering from “complications of a recent viral cardiomyopathy.” The stateeont offered no further information.
According to WebMD, cardiomyopathy is a heart disease where the heart is abnormally enlarged, weakening the heart’s ability to pump blood. It often causes heart failure.
Travis, 54, has been in the news a lot lately for reasons other than his award-winning singing career. He was arrested three times last year for public intoxication, including a DWI. In January, he avoided jail time in an assault case.
Travis is known for the hits "Three Wooden Crosses," "Forever and Ever, Amen," "Diggin' Up Bones," and "Deeper Than the Holler.” He has won several Grammys, most recently for his 2009 collaboration with Carrie Underwood “I Told You So.”
