Alan Thicke is proud of his son, Robin Thicke, after the success of his song “Blurred Lines,” which arguably become the biggest song of this summer. As a result, the former Growing Pains star said up until recently he could relate to his son.

At the 15th Annual DesignCare event benefiting The HollyRod Foundation, Thicke told People “I've related to it, and understood it, and was able to feel it, up until only the last couple of weeks. He has now projected himself into a stratosphere, into another level, having raised the bar, the family brand, to unimaginable heights."

In addition to acting, Alan is a singer/songwriter, but he’s happy that his son has surpassed his success.

“I occasionally get a good laugh by introducing myself as 'Robin Thicke's father,'" he said. "And though I cannot quite relate to the incredible success and accomplishment of his work on that song, now I just feel [like], 'Okay, now I just have to share you with the rest of the world now ... You are barely mine anymore.'"

CBS News reports that Thicke’s album Blurred Lines is now available, starting Tuesday.

He took to Twitter to announce, “Beyond excited to announce that my album #BlurredLines is officially out in the US.”
