Rocker Alice Cooper is upset at the state of Rock ‘n’ Roll, calling popular bands Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers poor examples of the genre.

Though Cooper is probably the only person who would try and compare his gothic style of rock music to the two folk bands, the 65-year-old singer is unimpressed, saying the groups are not an accurate representation of rock music.

"I just feel like this whole generation maybe all need to eat a steak," Cooper said in an interview with Fuse . "Maybe they need to quit eating, you know, vegetarian food and get out there and get some blood pumping in their system."

Cooper mused about the bands lyrics and choice of instruments, saying the folk style is far from "real rock 'n' roll," which is an interesting observation on Cooper’s part if Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers are in fact folk rock bands. Folk rock is a genre Cooper acknowledges, but he wants to make it clear that folk is no where near as risqué or original as rock ‘n’ roll.

"I get they want to be folk rock, and I guess they want to look like everybody else," Cooper said as he ranted about the differences in the genres. "I'm old school when it comes to if you're in a band, you're an outlaw. You don't play by those rules; you're a rock 'n' roll outlaw. It doesn't mean you have to be on drugs, but when you get onstage you don't play the guitar up here, and it's not an acoustic guitar. You play the guitar down here. It doesn't come from your brain, it comes from your guts. It comes from your groin. It's sexual. It's tribal."

According to The Huffington Post , Cooper says that the two bands are offensive to both him as an artist and the genre of rock ‘n’ roll. The rocker also added that he considers The Foo Fighters and Green Day to be real rock bands.
