Director David Fincher has found an actress to play Ben Affleck’s wife in Gone Girl - British actress Rosamund Pike.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Thursday that Pike has been offered the role and will most likely accept. This would be a huge coup for the actress, who starred in Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher last year and reportedly beat Charlize Theron, Natalie Portman and Emily blunt for the role. Abbie Cornish and Olivia Wilde were also in the running, notes THR.

The news comes just two weeks after it was confirmed that Ben Affleck will star in the film, which will be Fincher’s first since his 2011 adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It is based on the novel by Gillian Flynn and was first optioned by Reese Witherspoon and her producing partners, Bruna Papandrea and Leslie Dixon.

Gone Girl is set up at Fox and production could get moving as soon as September. Affleck will make this film before making his follow-up to Argo, Live By Night.

Pike has a long list of upcoming films, including A Long Way Down, What We Did on Our Holiday and Return to Sender. She can also be seen in Die Another Day and An Education.
