A San Diego woman’s suicide attempt on Thursday was at first mistaken for a promotion for a movie event at Comic-Con.
According to the Los angeles Times, the woman dangled from a railing, attempting to jump from the 14th floor balcony of an apartment building in downtown San Diego.
Since she wore green pants and a Kick-Ass 2 party was being set up, some onlookers believed that it may have been part of a stunt to promote the Universal movie. In fact, workers who had been setting up a zip line for the party were there to help pull her up and place her in a harness, the woman’s neighbor told the LA Times.
San Diego police later arrived and took her into custody. Officials did not release her name.
The New York Daily News reports that a YouTube clip of the incident also showed that event personnel were helping the woman. People on the ground were also yelling “Don’t do it! Don’t jump!” and called 911.
“The call came in as a jumper,” an officer told the LA Times. “A female hanging from a balcony. There was something thrown from the balcony and she was crying. After some negotiations, she was taken into custody.” He confirmed that she was taken to a mental health facility.
The Kick-Ass 2 party was hosted by Playboy and Universal across the street from the apartment building.
