Former American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, who beat out runner-up Clay Aiken in Season 2, will be joining reality television once again. The singer will join NBC’s The Biggest Loser.

Back in 2006, Studdard told Today’s Meredith Viera that it wasn’t the exercise regimen that was the issue in losing weight, it’s eating healthy. He went to college on a football scholarship.

“We’re from Alabama, we love to eat!” he said at the time, Today.com reports. “So I basically had to change my thinking and as it pertains to the foods I wanted to eat. (Duke) put me on a 1,200 to 1,500 calorie diet a day. It ended up being pretty easy.”
He also said, “On both sides of my family, I have a family history of diabetes and high blood pressure and things of that nature.”

But this isn’t the first time he’s attempted to lose weight. After winning Idol, he gained an extra 100 pounds, People reported.

Last June he told Wendy Williams he had not been on track in terms of eating right due to the stress from owing money in back taxes and going through a divorce.

The new season of The Biggest Loser returns in October.
