A shooting in Middleborough, Massachusetts has left one woman dead and the alleged shooter wounded because he would not cooperate with police.
Shortly after midnight Friday police responded to a call that a woman was bleeding at the end of her long driveway on Highland Street, in the southern section of town. At their arrival, they saw that the woman had been shot in the chest and her husband and another person were attempting to rescue her by CPR.
The woman, who has not been identified by police, was rushed to a local hospital and died shortly after. Boston Globe reports that the suspected shooter was seen holding a long barrel gun and did not cooperate with police, which was what led to him being shot.
“He was coming down the driveway armed with a long barrel firearm,’’ said the office of the Plymouth District Attorney, Timothy J. Cruz. “Police told the individual several times to drop the weapon. He did not comply and was pointing the weapon at police. He was then shot by police.’’
The man, who has not been identified either, was immediately taken to the hospital and is expected to live. He is being charged with assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm, but will not yet appear in court because of his injury.
According to Herald News the shooter and the woman know each other and he had been staying in her home.
Frank Middleton, First Assistant District Attorney, arrived at the scene this morning along with emergency officials still investigating the crime. Police have not yet identified a motive of the shooter.
