The Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is holding open auditions to play the character of the superhero himself.
The original Peter Parker, Reeve Carney, is leaving on Sept. 15. He has played Spider-Man since the beginning in 2010. The casting call will begin next month as well as a casting call for an actress to play Mary Jane the Associated Press reports.
“Hopefuls should be males in their late teens to early 20s of any ethnicity. They must have a great rock singing voice. They can be nerdy with an understated sex appeal and a good sense of humor,” producers of the musical said in a statement.
Carney has stayed with the musical for a while. Jennifer Damiano, the original Mary Jane; Patrick Page, the original Green Goblin; and Natalie Mendoza have also left the musical previous to Carney.
The musical hold the Broadway record for the most expensive production sitting at $75 million according to the Los Angeles Times. Director Julie Taymore was fired from the production in 2011, which caused a lawsuit in April. During the flying stunts several stuntmen have been injured.
