British musician Sting is going to perform 10 shows in New York City this fall.
In a message posted on his site, the former Police frontman said that the concerts will benefit The Public Theater. all proceeds from the shows will go to the arts group based in New York.
The series of intimate shows at the 250-seat Anspacher Theater will start on Sept. 25 and run through Oct. 9. A very special 11th show will be hosted for 100 Sting.com members who will be picked through a lottery. That show is set for Oct. 2, Sting’s birthday.
As for the other shows, a limited number will be set aside for Sting.com members and will go on sale on Saturday at 12 p.m. The pre-sale period will end on Sunday at 8 p.m. These special tickets have to be purchased on the phone by calling (212) 967-7555 and with a special code all members will be given.
American Express cardmembers also get a special pre-order period from Wednesday to Sunday and whatever’s left for the public goes on sale Sunday here. The tickets aren’t cheap, running from $250 to $2500.
“The Public Theater, a New York institution committed to supporting all of the city's distinct communities, was a natural fit to perform this material that is, at its core, about the importance of community,” Sting said in a statement.
Sting has promised that the shows will give fans a behind-the-scenes look at his new album, The Last Ship. That hits stores on Sept. 23.
