In Texas, a teen facing felony terrorism charges because of threat on Facebook has been released thanks to an anonymous donor who posted the $500,000 bond.
On Facebook while arguing with a friend over the game "League of Legends" , 19 year old Justin Carter said, "I'm going to go shoot up a kindergarten". Carter spent five months in jail and faced the possibility of even more jail time as reported to KVUE. According to the court documents of the case, Carter lived less than half a mile from an elementary school. His comments were made just two months after the tragic Newtown, Conneticut shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary and were reported to the authorities who then issued a warrant for his arrest.
One of Carter's attorneys Chad Van Brunt tells CNN, "Any clear reading and full reading of the context of that statement would make it obvious that this was just a sarcastic joke."
Carter has been released to the custody of his parents.
Many stand behind the teen, a petition for his release recently reached over 126,00 signatures.
While that may be true, Carter's case should serve as a warning of the repercussions of your words said online, no matter how sarcastic there are just some things you probably should not joke about especially with the rate of deadly gun violence in the United States and the claims that the government is watching your online presence.
