The wife of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, 74-year-old Teresa Heinz Kerry, suffered from a seizure July 7 and was released from treatment Saturday.
John Kerry and his wife were visiting their vacation home in Nantucket, Massachusetts when she started having seizure-like symptoms and was rushed to the hospital. According to Associated Press, the cause of the seizure was not reported.
She was being treated at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston until Saturday. Doctors say she will have a full recovery.
Kerry expressed how thankful he was for the doctors and caregivers who assisted his wife in her recovery.
“I'm extremely grateful for the quality of care Teresa received, from the calm and confidence of the EMTs who intervened at the house, to the amazing proficiency of the team at the ICU at Mass. General, to the focused, caring attention of the group at Spaulding,” Kerry said. “I've always known Massachusetts is blessed to have some of the greatest health care in the world, but we've just lived it, and are grateful to all."
Heinz Kerry is an heir to the Heinz ketchup fortune and is the widow of former U.S. senator John Heinz, who died in 1991.
