On a website where musicians critique other musician’s work, Lou Reed, frontman of The Velvet Underground highly praised Kanye West’s new album, Yeezus.

Reed said on The Talkhouse that West “really, really, really is talented” as he reviewed most tracks from the album that sold 327,000 copies in the first week, according to New York Times

In regards to the sounds, melodies and rhythms presented in the album, Reed commented: “It works because it’s beautiful.”

He even admitted to crying (during “Send It Up”) and laughing (during “I’m In It”) before he went on to praise “Blood On The Leaves” by bringing up the “juxtaposition of vocal tones and calling it “fascinating.”

Reed reminisced on West’s previous works, specifically his music video for “Runaway” from My Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Fantasy, where he said West was brilliant for making connections between ballet and hip-hop. West continued those connections, according to Reed, by creating a “synth orchestra”.

“I’ve never heard anything like it,” Reed observed.
