Buckle your seatbelts because the new films out this week are heart pumping thrill rides. Mind games, killers and life threatening scenarios cause the tension and excitement. An action/adventure film puts a famous mutant superhero on the brink of defeat.

A century old mutant is forced to deal with his own mortality for the first time in The Wolverine. In the PG-13 film, an old friend convinces the popular X-Men character to return to Japan, a place he hasn’t been to since World War II. While there, he battles it out with samurai and yakuza gangsters. The action/adventure film, starring Hugh Jackman, runs for two hours and nine minutes and is available in 2D and 3D theaters.

A naive teen heading to college creates a list of things she wants to accomplish before she starts school in The To Do List. Looking to shed her innocence, and with her eyes on an older guy, the school valedictorian turns to her friend, sister and boss to help her increase her sexual prowess and achieve her goals. The one hour and forty-four minute comedy stars Aubrey Plaza, Johnny Simmons, Bill Hader, Alia Shawkat, Rachel Bilson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Donald Glover and Andy Samberg. It’s rated R for sex, language and drugs.

A struggling painter lands an unconventional job from a millionaire that buys one of his paintings in The Time Being. The wealthy man asks him to go behind the camera and film specific things and people. The artist begins to wonder whether this new opportunity is helping advance his career or destroying his relationships. Wes Bentley and Frank Langella star in the unrated suspense thriller. It’s running in limited theaters for one hour and twenty-eight minutes.

A young woman moves into a new apartment and discovers something evil lurking about in Apartment 1303. When her boyfriend finds her dead in the middle of the street, her sister moves into the apartment to try and figure out what caused her untimely passing. The unrated horror film stars Mischa Barton, Rebecca De Mornay, Julianne Michelle and Corey Sevier. The thriller is running in limited theaters for one hour and forty-one minutes. It’s rated R for sex, violence and language.

Christian Slater and Brendan Fehr star in Stranded. In the limited released film, a meteor storm attacks astronauts on the moon causing alien spores to disperse amongst them. Not only do they have to fight for their lives, but they must also block the alien from getting to Earth. The sci-fi horror film runs for one hour and twenty-eight minutes.

Two women meet at a bar and start an intense relationship in Apartment 1303. After realizing they both have arch enemies that they wish dead, the two agree to get rid of the other’s nemesis. The one hour and twenty-three minute thriller is unrated. It’s available in limited theaters.

Set in World War II, Frankenstein’s Army, tells the story of Russian soldiers struggling to survive in enemy territory. Travelling through a village, they find themselves in an evil scientist’s laboratory, where the madman is creating soldiers out of body parts and knives. The limited released, sci-fi horror film runs for one hour and twenty-four minutes. It’s rated R for violence and language.

The edge of the seat suspense continues next week with the release of the crime thriller 2 Guns. For the kids, Smurfs 2 is hitting theaters on July 31.
