Famous and gifted computer hacker Barnaby Jack, 36, died in San Francisco Thursday. The San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his death but did not give any details of how it happened.
According to Tech Spot Jack was supposed to host a talk at the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas next week. Jack was planning to demonstrate a new technique of attacking implanted heart devices and how to improve their security.
Jack was the director of embedded security research at IOActive but was best known for his 2010 demonstration of how to make an ATM machine spit out free cash, Huffington Post reports.
He called this technique “Jackpotting” and it led him to become one of the most famous hackers in the world.
The hacking community expressed great sadness over the death of Jack and his well-known hacking demonstrations. Many hackers turned to Twitter to voice their grief and ideas of a possible conspiracy theory as the cause of his death.
