YouTube is following up May’s successful Comedy Week with a Geek Week in August, the Google-owned video sharing site announced today.
The event will be similar to Comedy Week, which featured content created by celebrities and live streaming events. It will stretch from Sunday, Aug. 4 to Saturday, Aug. 10.
According to CNET, the event will highlight content from over 100 channels with programs on science, science fiction, comic books, superheroes and fantasy. Each day has a specific theme and will be hosted by a single channel, kicking off with Blockbuster Sunday. Monday is a mix of anime, comic books and Doctor Who, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
The week culminates in Fan Friday, which will highlight fan-made content and costumes. There will even be science fiction cooking shows.
“Geeks are everywhere in popular culture,” said Danielle Tiedt, YouTube's chief marketing officer, in a statement, reports The LA Times. “You see that at YouTube as well: half of our top channels are in the geekdom arena. ... This is a great opportunity to really highlight this amazing content.”
