People have been talking about a possible movie for Arrested Development for years, even before it was revived by Netflix, and it’s looking like it’s finally happening, according to producer Mitch Hurwitz.
Fox News reports that Hurwitz told Rolling Stone, “I’m working on the movie right now.”
“I can’t get into much more detail because I don’t want to scare anybody off. I don’t want to be presumptuous about it. I don’t own the property outright – It’s a 20th Century Fox property. But everybody seems really into it.”
While Hurwitz said he is working on the movie, he admits it has yet to get a green light, but he hopes “it happens as soon as possible.”
The fourth season of the show was recently released through Netflix after it was cancelled by Fox back in 2006. Cinema Blend notes that the fourth season left off abruptly and Hurwitz hopes to continue off with a movie and another season. And that the odd structure of the fourth season, where each episode focused on a different character, was a result of the various cast members' commitments.
Hurwitz mentioned that the time commitment for a film should be shorter than the show’s, making it easier to work into everyone's schedules.
According to Fox News, the fourth season, shown only on Netflix, received mixed reviews.
