‘Divergent’ teaser with Shailene Woodley premieres before MTV VMAs (Video)

The trailer for Divergent, another young adult novel adaptation, premiered just before the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night.

In the minute-long clip, anyone unfamiliar with the Veronica Roth novel can get a brief look at the plot. Divergent takes place in another dystopian society in which people are put in groups based on their personality traits. If you can’t fit in one of these groups, you’re a divergent and seen as a threat to the society.

Shailene Woodley stars in the film with Theo James, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney, Zoe Kravitz, Ansel Elgort and Maggie Q. It was directed by Neil Burger (The Illusionist) with a screenplay by Vanessa Taylor.

Lionsgate and Summit are releasing the film in IMAX in the hopes that this becomes another Hunger Games-style success. Roth wrote two more books in the series, so you can bet that the studio is eager to get a chance to make those as well.
