The first teaser for Don Jon, the first film directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, was shown during the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday. It’s really brief, but highlights the intense relationship between Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson’s characters.
The TV spot is just 30 seconds and only features images of Don Jon (Gordon-Levitt) and Barbara (Johansson) up against a wall, kissing. Barbara tells Don Jon that she wants to meet his friends and family. “Don’t you think it’s always better when it means something?” she asks as single-word quotes from critics flash on the screen.
Don Jon was screened at Sundance earlier this year and has Gordon-Levitt as a pornography obsessed man from New Jersey who develops a sudden romance while trying to hide secret life. The rest of the cast includes Julianne Moore, Tony Danza and Brie Larson. Gordon-Levitt also penned the script and admitted that some of the graphic sex scenes had to be trimmed. However, he said it will not affect the story and the film is still rated R.
Don Jon hits theaters on Sept. 27. Here’s the VMAs teaser:
