Warner Bros. is reportedly looking to bring Scooby Doo and the entire Mystery Machine gang back to the big screen. The studio is developing an animated version of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon.
Variety reported this afternoon that it is being planned as a co-production with Atlas Entertainment and Charles Roven and Richard Suckle are producing. The news was also confirmed by Entertainment Weekly, which noted that Matt Lieberman has been assigned to write the script. He has few credits, but just finished a script for Paramount’s remake of Short Circuit.
Roven and Suckle have Scooby Doo experience, having produced the 2002 live action film that grossed $275 million worldwide. A second film, Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed, was released in 2004 and grossed $180 million worldwide.
The studio assigned Jesse Ehrman to oversee the project. They are keeping the plot a mystery. No timetable was reported.
Roven’s more recent credits include Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Rises, both at Warner Bros. Audiences will also see his name among the producers listed on Sony and David O. Russell’s American Hustle this December.
