A frightened 10-year-old boy called 911 to report that his father was driving drunk in Stonington, Connecticut.
The boy told police that he was worried for his safety. He was also worried about his 12-year-old sister, who was with him in the back seat of the speeding Mercedes-Benz.
The boy told police that he was considering jumping from the car because he considered it to be a safer option than crashing at the speed the father was driving, local news source WFSB reports.
Unfortunately, the call was dropped as the dispatcher transferred him to the Connecticut State Police. Owen Gilman, the driver of the car, crashed into a Jeep Cherokee before police could reach them.
Authorities took the boy and his sister, who have not been named because they are minors, to the hospital to be treated for injuries that they received in the crash. The police also took the driver of the Cherokee to the hospital for treatment of a head injury and lacerations.
Police arrested Gilman on several counts, including reckless driving and driving under the influence. He went to court on Thursday.
He's being held on $35,000 bond, CBS reports.
