Chinese police are offering a reward for any information that could lead to the female attacker’s capture.
A 6-year-old-boy, surnamed Gao, had his eyes gouged out by an unidentified female attacker on August 24 in the northern province of Shanxi.
The NY Daily News reports that the young boy told police that the woman led him to an open field after he had gone outside to play. He also said that she spoke with an accent.
He was found by his parents hours later, covered in blood and with his eyes missing. The eyes were later found nearby.
Gao was rushed to a nearby hospital by his family, after which he was transferred to Shanxi Eye Hospital for further treatment. His doctors have said that he will be blind for the rest of his life.
"We had no disputes with anybody," said the boy’s mother, Wang Wenli, according to China Daily. She also said that she and her farmer husband do not know why the woman would attack their son.
The reward for information in the case is set at 100,000 yuan ($16,340), the BBC reports.
