Patrick Cau, who was in training to become an American Airlines flight attendant, pleaded guilty to making bomb threats against another airline.
The ex trainee admitted to phoning a bomb threat to a United Airlines flight from London to Los Angeles in October 2012. However, he is believed to have made six of those calls between October and January to the same airline. Confirmation is still to be made to verify that it was him.
American Airlines spokesman Matt Miller told The Associated Press that Cau was "added to the list after the airline's background check." Therefore, the airline had no clue that he was on the U.S. government's no-fly list.
According to ABC News, Cau also goes by the name Patrick Kaiser, which may be another reason why his criminal history was not made apparent from the start.
Cau faces a felony charge that could put him in prison for up to five years and, depending on damage charges, could be fined more than $250,000.
