Jonathon Croom, 18, disappeared without a trace driving back to his home in Arizona after visiting a friend in Seattle, Washington on Aug. 16.
No one has heard from the teen since Aug. 18, when he sent a friend a text message saying he wanted to go on adventure. He then stopped responding.
His father, David Croom, worries that his son is attempting to mimick the 2007 film Into The Wild. The film is inspired by the true story of Christopher McCandless, who purposely isolated himself in the wilderness of Alaska.
"We're talking about a kid who has been almost obsessed with this particular movie. My concern is that he's out there with very limited resources and not a lot of experience,” David Croom said, ABC reports. "I've never felt a fear like this. It's unexplainable."
His 2000 Honda CR-V was found abandoned Wednesday in Riddle, Oregon, a small town off of Interstate 5. Left inside the car was his wallet, ID, cash, and a book on outdoor survival, which gives authorities even more reason to believe he does not want to be found.
Daily Mail reports that Croom had been living with his brother before leaving to visit a friend on July 30. He was supposed to return last weekend to begin classes Monday at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona.
