On Monday August 26th, Lionsgate announced via both press release and Twitter that Australian actress Stef Dawson will play Annie Cresta in the film adaptions of Mockingjay, the final book in the The Hunger Games trilogy.
According to Lionsgate’s press release, Dawson is, “a native of Australia's capital city, Canberra, Dawson is known for her work on television as well as numerous independent films including the recent thriller WRATH.”
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Dawson will appear in the upcoming horror film 13 Girls.
Dawson will play the love interest of highly popular character Finnick Odair (Sam Claffin). While fans have yet to meet Finnick in the movie (they will in the upcoming installment The Hunger Games: Catching Fire which opens worldwide on November 22, 2013), the District 4 tribute has a huge fan base.
Dawson is the most recent addition to the cast of Mockingjay. Just last week, Lionsgate announced, that Game of Thrones actress Natalie Dormer will play Cressida in the films.
The final The Hunger Games book will be split into two movies, much like the Harry Potter and Twilight franchises did for their finales.
Mockingjay Part 1 will open worldwide on November 21, 2014 with Part 2 following on November 20, 2015.
