Dusten Brown, a father embroiled in a custody dispute in an adoption case, turned himself in to authorities in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma.
A South Carolina court issued an arrest warrant for Brown because he refused to comply with a court order to return his daughter to her adoptive parents.
"He is a very loving father, a responsible citizen and he is serving his country in the military," attorney Rob Nigh told ABC News . "He has consistently indicated that custody of his daughter is of critical importance to him and he intends to assert his legal rights."
South Carolina governor Nikki Haley may sign an extradition warrant soon. Brown could face five years in prison if convicted of custodial interference.
“We’re standing our ground to support Dusten,” Kathleen Wesho-Bauer, one of Brown’s supporters, told local newspaper
Tahlequah Daily Press . “Other family members should be able to step in. Nobody has the right to stop [Dusten] from seeking custody of his child. We talk all the time about men needing to step up and be fathers. Well, he’s stepping up and we support him.”
