But Beautiful is the latest from modern jazz group Brandon Bernstein Trio. The band consists of guitarist Brandon Bernstein, bassist Putter Smith and drummer Kendall Kay.

Bernstein has been described as “….one of the most impressive young guitarist on the scene.” He has established himself as an artist in the Los Angeles jazz scene by performing in array of venues through out the city. He has also made his mark internationally by playing at festivals in South America, Europe, Asia, and Canada.

Bernstein started playing the guitar at the age of 14. He realized his passion for music and at the age of 18 he got a scholarship to study jazz at Berklee School of Music. Bernstein credits his musical influences to be Jim Hall and Ed Bickert. Also modern jazz guitarist that include Larry Koonse, Ben Monder, Bill Frisell, and Julian Lage.

But Beautiful has ten smooth jazz tracks that showcases each member of the groups talent. The album opens with the single “That Old Feeling” which is a mellow song that gives light to Bernstein’s musical genius on the guitar. The light rhythmic taps of the drums are laced flawlessly with the melding of instruments throughout the song.

Following is “Skylark” has a blues harmonious sound that has a unique drum beat that will make you want to dance. It has a sultry and edgy vibe that sparks a shift in the album. In the single “Celia” moves away from the mellow sound and is upbeat and fast. It has an energetic vibe that is rather abstract but will become one of your favorite songs on the album.

The album comes to a full circle and returns to the mellow sound in “But Beautiful,” Bernstein is expressing emotions through the music in where words could not describe. But Beautiful is an easy listen that has a wide variety of sound that will make you want to listen to jazz.
