Two rock legends are joining forces for a tour this fall. The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson and legendary British guitarist Jeff Beck are going to tour together, starting in Florida this September.
Beck spoke with USA Today about playing with Wilson, the creative mind behind some of the Beach Boys’ biggest hits. The Jeff Beck Group frontman previously performed the Beach Boys hits “Surfin’ Safari” and “Surfin’ USA” at Wilson’s MusiCares 2006 tribute.
"He's got a truckload of hits to play, but we'll build on that and interact,” Beck explained. “Brian will kick things off, but I'll also be given enough time to establish what I'm about. In the end, we'll mix and match. It's a complete honor to be on stage with him.”
Wilson noted that Beck is “very well versed” in Beach Boys music and “he'll play in the pockets where I'm not singing. He brings that great guitar-player kind of thing to the picture.”
The news was also confirmed on Wilson’s site, where they noted that Al Jardine and David Marks - two other former Beach Boys members - will be joining Beck and Wilson. The Beach Boys toured last year to celebrate their 50th anniversary, with Wilson, Jardine and Marks included.
Beck also contributed to Wilson’s new solo album, which Beck says feels like the acclaimed Beach Boys album Pet Sounds. “Once you hear it, you'll be whistling the songs for the rest of your life,” Beck added.
The tour starts on Sept. 27 in Hollywood, Florida and wraps on Oct. 27 in Akron, Ohio. Tickets are on sale Friday.
