R&B singer D’Angelo has been forced to cancel several concerts this week due to a medical emergency.
D’Angela first cancelled an appearance at House of Blues Monday “due to a medical emergency,” according to a statement from promoters Live Nation, notes The Chicago Tribune. D’Angelo “expresses his sincere regret due to this unfortunate circumstance,” the statement continued.
A House of Blues executive told the Tribune that the singer’s agent said “It's serious, but he should be OK.”
Shows in New York and Maryland last week were cancelled, as well as Tuesday’s Minneapolis show, this Saturday’s San Diego show. The Maryland venue said in a Facebook post that D’Angelo had been hospitalized.
According to Billboard, he was supposed to perform at the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco on Friday. Instead, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers will take D’Angelo’s place.
“We hope that D'Angelo has a speedy recovery, and we are grateful to Nile Rodgers and Chic for stepping in at this late hour,” Allen Scott of Another Planet Entertainment, which put together the festival, said in a statement. “Chic is still one of the greatest live bands around and I can guarantee that they are going to bring the party to Outside Lands on Friday.”
The details of D’Angelo’s medical emergency are still unclear.
D’Angelo only recently began performing again last year. He is known for the albums Brown Sugar (1995) and Voodoo (2000).
