Authorities in Florida arrested Derek Medina and charged him with first-degree murder in the death of his wife after he turned himself in.

On August 9, Miami Judge Maria Elena Verde ordered Derek Medina to be held without bail until his arraignment three weeks from now.

Medina gained notoriety for allegedly killing his wife and posting a photo of her body on Facebook on Thursday.

"I'm going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife. Love you guys, Miss you guys ... My wife was punching me, and I am not going to stand any more with the abuse so I did what I did. I hope u understand me," Medina posted on Facebook, Reuters reports.

Derek Medina and Jennifer Alfonso married, divorced, and then married again in May 2012.

Facebook has since removed Medina’s post.

“The content was reported to us. We took action on the profile – removing the content and disabling the profile, and we reached out to law enforcement. We take action on all content that violates our terms, which are clearly laid out on our site,” Facebook officials said in a statement released to local new station WFOR Miami . “As this is an ongoing law enforcement investigation, I would refer you to the authorities in Florida for any additional details.”
