An upcoming general election was wrongly reported on a billboard in Detroit August 13, misinforming residents about when to go and vote for the mayor and members of city council.
According to The Detroit Free Press as many as 14 billboards listed a september date for the election, when in actuality, voting will take place November 5.
City Clerk Janice Winfrey told The Associated Pressthat she was embarrassed by the mistake and that it would be fixed within a few days.
Winfrey defended International Outdoor, the business responsible for setting up the billboards, and claimed that they were trying to be proactive and made a mistake. Winfrey also said that billboard businesses make mistakes all the time and that the error wouldn't be hard to fix.
THe cause for delay has been attributed to the rain. The city, which recently declared bankruptcy, can expect to pay anything up to $500 per billboard for the fixes.
